Talk: Artist DJ Simpson

Free Talk: Artist DJ Simpson in conversation with artist, critic and lecturer David Burrows of Birmingham Institute of Art and Design

Date: Wednesday 22 February 2006

Time: 18:00

Venue: Mead Gallery

All are welcome to attend.

DJ Simpson is currently exhibiting in the Mead Gallery - his first major museum show in the UK since New Labour at the Saatchi Gallery in 2001. He has been described as "a painter who doesn’t paint", and refers to his own work as "drawing with electricity". He is renowned for his large scale paintings which humorously reference grand works from the Abstract Expressionist canon, and the influence of painters such as Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning resonate playfully throughout his work. The exhibition runs from Monday to Saturday, 12:00-21:00 until Saturday 11 March.
