Secret Love in Peach Blossom Land

Tuesday 20 January, 7.30pm, Warwick Arts Centre Theatre

The Warwick Chinese Society presents this production of Secret Love in Peach Blosson Land - a remake of the most famous play by renowned Taiwanese playwright and director Mr Stan Lai.

Since its debut in 1986, there have been five drama versions and a film version of Secret Love in Peach Blossom Land in China. The film has won Caligari Film Award in Berlin International Film Festival, Golden Horse Award in Golden Horse Film Festival and Silver Award in Japan International Film Festival. In recent years, Chinese students at Oxbridge have put the play on stage.

THE STORY

Two drama groups happened to share the same stage for rehearsal. One played a modern tragedy called "Secret Love," The other played the comedy "Peach Blossom Land," the utopia of classical Chinese literature.

Friction was inevitable; they ended up as an interesting remix of modern and ancient times, tragedy and comedy. Though unreconciled in all aspects, they find themselves telling the same story: Chinese people forced to leave home.

Tickets for the show are on sale now from the Arts Centre Box Office at three price levels (brackets indicate student concession price):

  • £10 (£8)
  • £12 (£10)
  • £15 (£12)
