Heatwave in India highlights unequal impact of climate change

As early heatwaves affect 15 states in India, Professor Keith HyamsLink opens in a new window (PAIS) comments on the unequal impact of climate change:

“The worst impacts of this heatwave will be felt by the poorest, once again demonstrating that climate change is unavoidably an issue of justice.

"It is not possible for societies to successfully adapt to climate change without confronting the unacceptable gap between rich and poor.

"In the face of climate change, socioeconomic inequality will increasingly come to mean the difference between life and death.”
