Following the highly successful exhibition of Steve McQueen's film installations Caribs' Leap / Western Deep at the Mead Gallery, Warwick Arts Centre, the Art Commissions Committee of the Imperial War Museum has awarded a research commission to Steve McQueen in response to the war in Iraq.

The artist has an open brief to make new work reflecting the current situation in Iraq. He will be visiting Iraq to learn more about the current state of the country and it's people. The timing of the visit is dependent up on a number of factors, but it is hoped that this will take place during the next two to three months. It is anticipated that the work will be shown at the Imperial War Museum during 2004.

Steve McQueen's Caribs' Leap / Western Deep was featured in an exhibition at Warwick's Mead Gallery last month. The exhibition was the last chance to see the work in the UK this year and represented a great honour for the gallery.
