Shakespeare and Sexuality

Professors Germaine Greer and Jonathan Bate will head up a transatlantic team to debate the theme of 'Shakespeare and Sexuality' in New York and Washington DC this spring. This event will be presented by the University in conjunction with the Royal Shakespeare Company which is to stage As You Like It at the Kennedy Centre, Washington DC, in May.

Warwick is currently exploring the potential for a closer relationship with the RSC - the leading classical theatre ensemble with its home in neighbouring Stratford-upon-Avon. This new partnership will focus on shared teaching and learning around the production and performance of Shakespeare and new writing. eLab's 3D Visualisation Group is currently working in partnership with the RSC to explore the potential of 3D computer reconstruction and virtual reality. Multi media elements from the collaboration will be used to improve and enhance public understanding of the redevelopment at Stratford's RSC theatres. This is the initial phase of a proposed long-term relationship that seeks to investigate and deliver quality interactive learning materials for the history of company and its theatres.

The RSC has already developed successful relationships with the University of Michigan, Columbia University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The new relationship with Warwick will be the first of its kind in the UK.

Warwick Welcomes Jonathan Bate who joins the University in April as Professor of Shakespeare and Renaissance Literature.

Articles on Shakepeare and Sex by Professors Germaine Greer and Jonathan Bate are published in Issue2 of The Warwick Magazine.
