Top 5 for Warwick in the "Table of Tables"

Originally Published 29 August 2003

Every year newspapers issue their version of University League Tables. Every newspaper uses different criteria to make their judgements, and every table is different. They have to be different - they have to sell papers!

So in an attempt to make some sense of it all, the Daily Telegraph have issued what they are calling "the most comprehensive" league table. That is, they have looked at all other league tables, and a survey by graduate recruiters, and offered an "average" listing.

Warwick is ranked an excellent fifth place in this table that, like all other league tables, we must inevitably treat with a degree of scepticism. After all, some newspapers do not even disclose the system they use to produce their rankings, which explains why we usually read them with invested interest, but avoid taking them too seriously.

Nevertheless, the table of tables provides a useful summary for those of us working in Higher Education Institutions, and that is why we have reproduced the top ten here. We score highly, particularly due to the quality of both teaching and research at the University. We are also held in particularly high regard by graduate recruiters and consequently sit firmly in the Daily Telegraph’s “Premier League”.
