AUT Industrial Action - Tuesday and Wednesday

Originally published 19 February 2004

You may already be aware that AUT members have voted for industrial action over aspects of the Framework Agreement. All the other unions represented on campus have voted decisively in favour of the Agreement.

The Framework Agreement is a two-year pay and modernisation deal worth 3.44% from August 2003 and a further 3% from August 2004 with an additional increase of 1% on assimiliation to a new salary spine. The modernisation elements are aimed at ensuring equal pay for work of equal value across the University and giving the University the opportunity to restructure aspects of its current grading arrangements to enhance career progression prospects. The AUT has called its members out on strike for two days on Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 February. As has been the practice on previous occasions staff on strike will lose pay for each day on strike. This will be calculated as 1/260th of salary. However the University will maintain USS contributions so that there will be no break in pensionable service or life assurance for those members of staff on strike. Staff members who go on strike or do not cross picket lines should inform the payroll office using the Word Document.

AUT has informed the University that they will picket the Gatehouse entrance. They may wish to hand out leaflets explaining the reasons for their industrial action, accepting and receiving this information is voluntary. The University will seek to ensure that anyone who wants to work will be able to do so. The University expects to be open for normal operations during these two days and it is expected that all members of staff will turn up for work and students will attend timetabled sessions as normal.
