This afternoon Council has formally agreed the appointment of the University’s new Registrar. Mr Jon Baldwin, currently Registrar and Secretary of the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), has accepted the position and will join Warwick early this summer.

Jon Baldwin joined UMIST as Secretary and Registrar in 2000, and manages all the administrative functions and institutional governance as senior administrative officer for the University. Prior to that he held the position of Registrar at the University of Wolverhampton for five years. He has also held management, teaching and administrative posts at Queen Margaret College, Edinburgh and Lancashire Polytechnic as well as teaching at the Open University and in Further Education and publishing papers and articles on a wide range of education-related topics.

He has a variety of external appointments and interests, including sitting on the Council of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, the Executive of the Association of University Administrators and being an Institutional Reviewer with Quality Assurance Agency (QAA).

His spare time is spent contributing to family life (he has three daughters), playing and watching a variety of sports and indulging his passion for literature.

Speaking of his new appointment Mr Baldwin explained

“I am delighted to join the University of Warwick at such an exciting time in its development. The forthcoming joining of the University and HRI sites at Wellesbourne and Kirton and Warwick’s recent selection to be NHSU’s prime UK university partner are just two of the significant current developments for the University and its partners. I am looking forward immensely to playing my part in the team charged with managing this time of great change – and not just for Warwick but for the higher education sector as a whole.”

Paul Greatrix, Director of Student and Ancillary Services, will continue to hold the post of Acting Registrar until Jon Baldwin’s arrival.

Kate Dodd, Director of the Careers Service, is currently filling the position of Acting Director of Student and Ancillary Services and Gill Frigerio has become Acting Director of the Careers Service.
