Professor Yvonne Carter Wins Coventry Good Citizen Award
Professor Yvonne Carter, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, and Dean of Warwick Medical School, was awarded a Coventry Good Citizen Award for her outstanding contribution to the city. She received her award during a ceremony at Coventry Council House on Monday 30th June.
On receiving her award, Professor Carter says: “I was completely surprised, I didn’t even know that I’d been nominated! I was honoured and delighted. It was nice to know that my colleagues had been putting this together.”
“I’m not normally a big fan of pomp and circumstance, but the ceremony was really lovely,” she adds. “It also came at the end of my first year as Pro-Vice Chancellor, and it also marks my fifth anniversary of my time at the Warwick Medical School.”
Professor Carter is Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University, and Dean of Warwick Medical School. She is also a Non-Executive Director and Vice-Chair for University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. Professor Carter has spent her life working in the NHS, and until last year she was a practicing GP in Canley.
This award recognises her extensive work in the region. As she explains: “It is certainly rewarding to be recognised for the work I do. The role of Pro-Vice-Chancellor for regional engagement is very outward-facing, and involves picking up relationships with the University Hospital, and looking into strategies with health authorities.
“I also work very closely with all the NHS Trusts. So it’s a regional perspective as well as a local one, because of the geography.”
Councillor Ken Taylor nominated Professor Carter for the award. He says: “There is no doubt in my mind that Professor Carter has made an outstanding contribution in a whole range of areas, particularly with her work at Warwick University and at the hospital, and as a GP in the community.”
