RaW's Success at Student Radio Awards

Warwick's student radio station, RaW, brought home three gold awards, two silver awards, and the Kevin Greening Creativity Award at this year's Student Radio Awards in London after being nominated nine times in six different categories. Despite increased standards across all categories this has been RaW's best year at the awards since 2003.

The awards were as follows:

  • Tash Collie – Best Scripted Programming (Gold) for radio soap "Slow Hands"
  • Julie Ann Lough – Best Female Presenter (Gold)
  • "The Big Chewsie" – Best Entertainment Programme (Gold) and the Kevin Greening Creativity Award
  • Tom Goble – Best Interview (Silver) for the interview with Shirley Phelps-Roper
  • Julie Ann Lough – Best Newcomer (Silver)

RaW's Das Shah, who attended the event said: "I'm really proud to have been a member of RaW and think that even those who didn't win last night were incredible last year - fingers crossed for next year!" Upon winning the Kevin Award, Ben Anderson said: "I can't believe we've won this, after hearing so much about Kevin's commitment and influence on UK radio – this means an incredible amount to us".

More than 30 RaW members attended the awards ceremony presented by BBC Radio 1's Scott Mills and Fearne Cotton. Tim Dye, chair of the Student Radio Association offered "massive congratulations" to all of this year's award winners, saying: "student radio remains key to providing the best new talent to pillars of the industry such as the BBC and Global Radio."
