Warwick will play host to the Solar Taxi on Tuesday 11 November as it embarks on the final leg of its challenge to become the first car to drive round the world fuelled entirely by the power of the sun.

The taxi, developed by four Swiss universities, began its journey in July 2007 and has already taken in four continents, 32 countries and over 48,000km, sharing its cabin with Royalty, Government Ministers, journalists, celebrities and back packers. The purpose of the trip – the brainchild of Swiss teacher Louis Palmer – is to showcase the possibilities of alternative energy.

From the University, the solar taxi will travel to Amsterdam and Brussels before continuing on to Poznan in Poland to be the official taxi for the United Nations Climate Change Conference in December.

The solar taxi will arrive on campus at 3.00pm on Tuesday 11th and will be parked by the piazza on central campus for an hour. Staff, students and the general public are invited to come to the piazza to meet Louis and view the car.
