Summer Degree Ceremonies

The University’s Summer Awards Ceremonies will take place from 13th – 17th July 2009. The Summer Ceremonies are our biggest celebration of our students’ successes and achievements and with two ceremonies each day, will see around 3500 students graduating from the University.

The ceremonies will be the first to take place in the newly refurbished Butterworth Hall in Warwick Arts Centre. They will also be the first Summer ceremonies attended by Chancellor, Richard Lambert, Director-General of the CBI (Confederation of British Industry) who was inaugurated in December 2008.

As well as celebrating student successes, the University will award 15 honorary degrees to distinguished men and women who have made important contributions to cultural, intellectual, social, economic or political life.

This year, recipients include pensions campaigner Rodney Bickerstaffe, Leamington born theatre critic Michael Billington, and Pascal Lamy  Director-General of the World Trade Organisation. Each honorary graduand is presented by an orator, who delivers a short citation about the achievements that have led to the award of the degree. During his visit, Pascal Lamy will also be holding a Public Lecture discussing "The Role of the Multilateral Trading System in the Recent Economic Crisis".

As part of the graduation celebrations, the Students’ Union will be holding an event for graduates, their families and friends – ‘Graduation and Beyond’. This new event is an opportunity for graduates to celebrate, share, and reflect on their Warwick Experience with those closest to them as they mark the end of one life changing journey and the beginning of another. During the event there will be activities and performances from Warwick students, including pieces from the orchestra, a fashion show, drama production and presentations from graduates about their Warwick experiences.

The event will take place on Wednesday 15 July from 6pm in The Copper Rooms in the Students’ Union. More information about Graduation and Beyond is available on the Students’ Union website.
