TEDx WarwickOn Saturday 10 March 2012, The University of Warwick will host TEDxWarwick 2012. Taking place from 10am to 6pm in The Arts Centre’s Butterworth Hall, the conference brings together inspirational speakers on the subject of global challenges, organised by University of Warwick students.

TEDx was launched by the global organisation TED (Technology, Entertainment & Design) with the mission: "ideas worth spreading." Guests have included Philip Zimbardo, Noam Chomsky, Tim Harford and Ben Hammersley.

TEDx 2011

Last year’s event in March 2011 saw ten speakers talking on ‘Ideas Worth Spreading’. The diverse range of topics included the psychology of music and leadership in the Iraq War.

Mustafa Akyol’s talk on Islam and Liberty is a fascinating exploration of the Quran and Muslim culture that examines the absence of gender division at Mecca, the holy shrine of Islam, despite gender segregation throughout the rest of Saudi Arabia. Mustafa’s talk was featured on the official TED website attracting over 250,000 views. The talk is expanded on in his book Islam without Extremes: A Muslim Case for Liberty.
