Warwick students awarded £5000 grant for China Now event

nortonrose.jpgTwo teams of students from the University have been awarded a £5000 grant by Norton Rose LLP as part of the China Now festival of Chinese culture taking place in 2008.

Students across the UK were invited to apply for grants of up to £5000 to arrange events that celebrate modern China. The two winning bids were led by Yu Zeng, of the Chinese Student Scholars Association, CSSA Warwick, and Han Gao of the Warwick Chinese Society.

Having originally applied separately, the two teams will now collaborate to organise exciting and colourful and China-themed events aimed to engage the university and local community with propsed activities such as Chinese language and cultural outreach opportunities, lectures and workshops for students, careers fairs, performance and music events.

This event will engage the University in celebrating modern China, and will be a fantastic addition to a number of other events occurring at Warwick as part of China Now.

China Now is the largest ever festival of its kind to be held in the UK, with events taking place across the country. The festival began at Chinese New Year in February and will continue to the end of July 2008 with the opening ceremony of the Olympics.

More details of the event to be held will be published as it is arranged.
