Head of Santander UK to give lecture at the University of Warwick

Ana BotinAna Botin, CEO, Santander UK, will speak today (23 May) to around 100 guests, including staff and students, on the future of banking and also visit the Santander branch at the university.

 The head of Santander UK will give a lecture to 100 guests including staff, students and key members from the bank. Entitled “The Future of the UK Economy and the Role of Entrepreneurs” Ms. Botin’s talk will be followed by a Q & A session with the CEO and a visit to the University of Warwick Santander branch.

The University of Warwick has strong links with the bank after the signing of a collaboration agreement in 2008. Ms. Botin will be introduced by the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Nigel Thrift.

Santander, through its Santander Universities Global Division, has funded nearly 40 scholarships and travel grants as well as awards and entrepreneurial activities at the University of Warwick for the past 5 years. The university is also receiving funding for 19 part-funded internship opportunities with local SMEs in 2012 through their agreement with Santander. In addition to the scholarships and grants the funding provided by Santander includes supporting entrepreneurship activities and their Science Park training programmes, scholarships to support their Brazilian Partnership fund and exchange programme and a contribution to the Outreach programme for university volunteers.

In total, 66 UK universities have now signed agreements with Santander. The Bank has committed nearly £9 million in 2013 to fund UK universities.

University of Warwick Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Nigel Thrift said: “We are delighted to welcome Ana Botin to campus.

The University of Warwick is one of the top ten universities targeted by the Times Top 100 Graduate Employers. Warwick is renowned for excellence and innovation within research and in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, was ranked seventh overall in the UK.

Santander Universities has signed agreements with over 1,000 universities in 20 countries including Brazil, USA, Mexico, Germany and Singapore.
