The results of the latest national Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), due published today Friday 14th December 2001, again confirms the University of Warwick's position as one of the UK's top 5 research universities. The Times, Financial Times, Daily Telegraph, Guardian, and Independent all rank Warwick as the UK's fifth best research university and highest placed in the Midlands.

  • The RAE places 91.1% of Warwick's research staff in its top two categories of 5 and 5* (this almost doubles the proportion of research active staff Warwick had in these top two categories in the 1996 RAE)
  • The latest exercise doubled the number of Warwick departments awarded the highest category of 5* The six departments to receive this top category were; Warwick Business School, Economics, English, Theatre Studies, Statistics, and Mathematics (Applied).
Warwick's Vice-Chancellor Professor David VandeLinde welcomed the results:
"Warwick has been consistently ranked as one of the UK's leading research universities and we are delighted that the latest RAE confirms that reputation. These excellent research ratings also complement our recent teaching quality assessments in which seven of our departments have achieved perfect scores of 24 out of 24 demonstrating that we are equally committed to excellence in teaching as well as research."
