10% Jump in Number of Applications to University of Warwick

The University of Warwick announced today, Monday 4th February, that applications to its undergraduate degree programmes have jumped by 10.2%. By the January cut off period, when all UCAS applications are meant to have been returned, 24,860 potential students had applied for a place at Warwick as compared to 22,559 at this time last year. UK and EU applications to the University are up 8.5% overall and international student applications are up by 22.2%.

The University, which was recently ranked as the fifth best research university in the UK by almost all the national newspapers following the recent Government UK wide research assessment exercise, continues to attract increasing numbers of student applicants because of its strong teaching and research reputation. The University of Warwick departments showing particularly strong increases in UK and EU student applications this year include:-
  • Physics up 29%
  • English up 26%
  • Law up 22%
  • Economics up 21%
  • Politics up 16%
  • Theatre Studies up 16%

The graduate entry degree programme offered by the University of Warwick part of the joint Leicester Warwick Medical School, has also seen a particularly strong rise in applications this year. The numbers applying to that programme are up 29% from 584 at this point last year to 755 as of the end of January this year.
