Tragic Masterpiece Il trovatore live and free on the piazza

Il trovatoreThe Royal Opera presents Verdi’s tragic masterpiece Il trovatore live and free on the University of Warwick piazza on Thursday 14 July from 7pm.

The harrowing tale of love, revenge and war is full of spine-tingling arias and powerful chorus numbers including the world famous ‘Anvil Chorus’.

The opera tells the tale of star crossed lovers, Manrico and Leonora, who are intertwined with the fate of the Manrico’s mother the gypsy Azucena, who is seeking vengeance for the murder of her own mother by the Di Luna family.

The free screening of this powerful opera includes exclusive backstage films with the singers as well as the final chance to enter this year’s BP Big Screen competition winning a hamper full of goodies.

Ellie Popham, who is a Royal Opera House Student Ambassador at Warwick, said:

"The live screenings, taking place on the piazza will provide a brilliant opportunity bring the local community together, alongside students, and give people a sense of what opera can be through some really exciting productions - even better, it's free so there's literally nothing to lose!"
