Warwick ranked in the top 10 of world's young universities

The University of Warwick has been ranked in the top 10 of the world's young universities and as the leading such university in the UK.

The Times Higher Education 100 Under 50 league table, published at 9pm on Wednesday 29th April, ranks what it considers are the 100 best universities around the globe under the age of 50.

In 9th place, the University of Warwick has climbed the list by four positions into the top 10, compared to its previous ranking at 13th in both 2014 and 2013 and Warwick has also secured first place as the best of the UK’s youngest universities.

Warwick's Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Nigel Thrift said: “This is further confirmation of Warwick’s increasing global reputation. To be declared the UK’s leading university under 50, as well as being in the global top 10 of that table, is a remarkable achievement and it’s a testament to our innovation during the last five decades as well as the dedication and commitment of our students and staff."

“As we enter our 50th anniversary this year our staff and students continue to drive forward that success and we are continuing our investment in infrastructure, research and teaching – as well as developing our global connections even further.”

Phil Baty, editor of the Times Higher Education rankings, said: “This prestigious ranking of dynamic young universities uses the same balanced blend of 13 rigorous performance indicators used to judge world class research universities in the overall THE World University Rankings. So the institutions in the top 100 list are being judged against tough and trusted international standards."

“Those who make the list have managed to make a big global impact in some key areas of teaching, research and knowledge transfer in competition against established, traditional institutions which have often had many centuries to accumulate wealth and reputation.

“Congratulations to Warwick on another outstanding performance, consolidating its position among the world’s elite young universities, and breaking into the top 10 for the first time.”
