World-Leading Research Excellence

milkyway

Excellent disciplinary and interdisciplinary research lies at the heart of our University. We undertake world-leading curiosity-led research that delivers real impact to the world outside of academia.

We have built an environment where academic excellence thrives. Research at Warwick is undertaken with methodological rigour and integrity and drives us forward as a world-class University.

Our research shapes thinking and influences policy, and we are strengthening our reputation for internationally-leading research excellence.

Our position as a leading research university was confirmed in the results of the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014. REF is an impact evaluation designed to assess research in UK higher education.

In REF 2014, we strengthened our position amongst the UK’s ten best research universities. Our intensity also achieved a top ten ranking, signifying the strength of our exceptional research community.

Impact was a central part of REF2014 - assessing how university research creates a meaningful, positive and lasting change in the world outside of academia.

We undertake world-leading research at the forefront of knowledge.

We are committed to attracting and nurturing the very best academics. Our researchers are encouraged and supported to collaborate nationally and internationally, to ensure that we continue to address some of the world’s biggest challenges and channel our expertise into making the world healthier, safer, cleaner and more just.

The central pillar of academic research excellence remains publication in high quality journals, or publication of monographs with leading publishers. In a climate where Open Access and Open Research Data are increasingly standard, we offer high quality library services, such as WRAP - an open access research repository.

We are growing our PhD student base, attracting students of the highest quality, by institutional investment and through increasing funding. This includes competitions for Centres of Doctoral Training and the provision of a central scholarships budget.
