What is an emergency loan?
An emergency loan may provide help to students who are experiencing short-term financial difficulty and who are having problems meeting their essential day to day
living costs. As such, the amount of loan offered will be based on need and in any case is unlikely to exceed £250.
Who can apply for an emergency loan?
If you are a fully enrolled Home, EU or International student and you are experiencing short-term financial difficulty, you may be eligible to apply for an emergency loan. It is expected that students will access any approved overdraft facility before applying for a loan. Please note that the number of loans you can apply for in any 12 month period cannot exceed three and any previous loans that are still outstanding
may impact on your ability to access further funds.
How do I apply for an emergency loan?
To apply for an emergency loan, you will first need to telephone the Student Funding office on 024 7615 0096 or email us at email@example.com. If you meet the eligibility criteria for a loan, an appointment will be made for you to visit the office in Senate House to discuss your circumstances in more detail. You will be required to bring your University ID card and a mini-statement or internet banking printout showing the current balance on your main bank account. If a loan is approved, you will collect the funds in cash. A repayment date will be agreed, usually after payment of your next instalment of funding.
Emergency loans can be processed during the following times (except weekends, bank holidays and university closure dates):
9.00am - 3.00pm
In circumstances where students are unable to attend the Student Funding office in person (for example, during periods of placement), we may be able to arrange for an emergency loan to be paid directly into your bank account. For more information, please contact the Student Funding office.
Will I be charged interest on an emergency loan?
Emergency loans do not accrue interest and are shown as a debt to the University on your Warwick account. If you feel you will have problems repaying your loan, please contact the Student Funding team to discuss your options before the due date.
How do I repay an emergency loan?
You can repay your emergency loan in a variety of ways:
In person: Student Services in Senate House can accept loan repayments by cheque or credit/ debit card between 9am-7pm (Monday to Friday) and 10am-5pm (Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays). Check the Student Services webpage for the most up-to-date opening times.
Over the telephone: You can call the Student Finance automated payment line on 0330 088 3627 to make a payment by credit/ debit card. Please have your University ID number handy.
Online: You can make a payment through your online student record.
