How is accommodation for new postgraduate students allocated?
Please see our allocation policy for more information on how we allocate postgraduate students. Applicants who meet the criteria noted in the allocation policy are allocated on a first-come first-served basis once you hold an unconditional firm offer of study at Warwick, subject to availability. We aim to allocate as many postgraduate students on campus as possible. In the majority of circumstances, we will only make an offer of accommodation once you have submitted an accommodation application and hold an unconditional firm offer of study at Warwick. If campus becomes fully allocated, we will allocate students on a rolling basis to university managed off campus accommodation. If university managed off campus accommodation then becomes fully allocated, we will allocate students on a rolling basis to partnership accommodation.
When applying for campus accommodation you will be asked to select at least seven on campus preferences which includes at least 2 non en suite options. While your preferences are taken into account, there is no guarantee that you will be allocated to one of your preferences, or that you will receive an offer of accommodation. It is also possible that further accommodation options will be added or removed, and you may be allocated to an option that was not advertised when applying for accommodation. Postgraduate students living on campus are housed in separate blocks/flats to undergraduate students.
If I submit an application, when will I hear if I have been offered accommodation?
We aim to start sending accommodation offers for postgraduate students from May 2022 onwards. We will endeavor to process your accommodation application once you hold an unconditional firm offer of study at Warwick, however please note it may take a few weeks to receive your offer of accommodation once you have an unconditional firm offer of study during periods where we are receiving a high volume of applications.
What can I do if I haven't received my offer of accommodation?
All offers will be sent via email, so we advise you to check your inbox and spam folder regularly. We respectfully ask you to not contact us until two weeks has passed after you hold an unconditional firm offer of study as your admission status needs to update and feed through to our system in order for us to process your accommodation application. If you have submitted an accommodation application and you hold an unconditional firm offer of study at Warwick, but have not heard from us within two weeks after meeting both of these conditions, you can get in touch accommodation at warwick dot ac dot uk. You should check your admissions status via your applicant portal to see if you hold an unconditional firm offer of study.
If I have a medical condition that affects my accommodation requirements, how can I apply for appropriate accommodation?
You will need to submit the appropriate application as detailed on the specific accommodation requirements webpage for your condition. We advise to do this as soon as possible but please be aware the deadline for your request being supported by the appropriate team is 27 July 2022, so you will need to submit the appropriate evidence in advance to ensure there is enough time for it to be assessed and for the decision to be communicated to you before the deadline. Please note that you will still need to submit an accommodation application separately and complete the relevant specific accommodation requirements section within the accommodation application to ensure we are aware and can take your requirements into account.
If I'm a part year postgraduate student, can I still make an application for accommodation?
Due to high demand, we can only accept applications for postgraduate accommodation from full year students to start in September 2022. If you are a part year postgraduate student, you can apply from mid-October 2022 for accommodation from November 2022 and you'll need to submit a separate application.
I am a PGCE (teacher training) student, can I still make an application for accommodation?
PGCE students are not eligible for accommodation on campus and should not apply online, however you are welcome to get in touch with the allocation team who can offer guidance on alternative options that may be available.
What is partnership accommodation?
We arrange accommodation for new Warwick postgraduate students with partner providers. You will be asked as part of your application process whether you would like your contact details to be passed on to a partner provider as partnership accommodation may be an option at such a time where campus and university managed off-campus options are fully allocated. Your contract will be directly with the partner provider and all rent will be paid to them. For more information please see our partnership provider webpage. You may need to pay a deposit or advance rent payment to secure a room if you are offered partnership accomodation and may also need to provide details of a guarantor.
What should I do if I find my own accommodation and no longer wish to be allocated accommodation?
If you have applied for university managed accommodation and no longer wish to be allocated, please email accommodation at warwick dot ac dot uk to let us know and we will withdraw your application provided you are yet to sign your contract. If you are looking for alternative accommodation, please make sure you have reviewed the Students Union housing guidance before entering into a legally binding contract.
What happens if I do not hold an unconditional firm offer of study at Warwick until later in the year?
You can still submit an application for accommodation but we will only send an offer of accommodation once you hold an unconditional firm offer of study from Warwick. We allocate accommodation for postgraduate students on a first-come first-served basis, subject to availability. Options may include university managed off campus accommodation and partnership accommodation.
If I receive an accommodation offer, how do I accept it?
We will send any offers of accommodation by email. For university managed accommodation, you will get three working days to accept your offer. If you miss this deadline we may not be able to make another offer of accommodation, so it’s important to regularly check your emails and spam folder. We can only make one offer of accommodation. You are able to reject your offer, but you will need to make alternative accommodation arrangements.
If you are allocated to Partnership Accommodation we will inform you by email, and provided you have consented for your details to be shared on your application form, the Partnership Accommodation provider will contact you with further information. In some instances, you may need to pay a deposit or advance rent payment to confirm your place in partnership accommodation, in addition to providing details of a suitable guarantor.
What happens if I reject my offer of accommodation?
We are only able to make one offer of accommodation. If you reject your offer, we are not able to make any further offers and you will need to make your own arrangements for accommodation. For more information about private accommodation, please see the Students Union guidance. If you reject your offer by accident then please contact us immediately.
Do you offer family or couples accommodation for new postgraduate students?
If you would like accommodation suitable for couples, please follow the couples accommodation application process. Please note, you do not need to fill out the postgraduate application form as there is a separate form for couples accommodation. Before applying, please review your accommodation options carefully as they are different to the standard postgraduate options. If you require family accommodation, please contact Staff and Family Housing for further information.
