Changes to Assessment Policies for 2023/24

A major project on reviewing, simplifying, rationalising and updating assessment policies will be initiated after the ITLR. In the meantime, there are a few critical wording changes that need to be made to some documents for 2023/24.

These are a very limited set of revisions to policies where the principles are established but need to be aligned. While these do not reflect a change in existing policies per se, they are being provided to documents now to give notice of the upcoming phrasing changes and to invite feedback before being approved in April 2023.

Departments may choose to scrutinise the proposed changes, but they are not required to do so. At this time, feedback should be restricted only to phrasing on sections where there is a proposed change. The information about proposed Changes to Assessment Policies for 2023/24 can be found here, and feedback can be submitted via an online form linked from the website (preferred), or alternatively via Faculty Education Committees. Please provide your feedback by February 1st 2023.

There are two main areas of proposed phrasing changes:

  1. Updating policies and conventions to reflect a pass mark of 40% at FHEQ level 4, 5 and 6 and 50% at FHEQ level 7. These primarily affect departments with integrated masters courses.
  2. Aligning policies on the amount of credit that can be waived due to mitigation (different amounts were listed in different documents) and reassessment opportunities (correcting omissions in the right to remedy failure policy and explaining the interaction between the maximum periods of study policy and mitigating circumstances policy).

If you have reviewed the proposed changes and have noted no concerns, brief comments to that effect would be appreciated.
