Meet Education Policy and Quality

The last few months have seen significant changes in Education Policy and Quality (EPQ). Our team has a new structure (including some new faces), with new priorities, and new ways of working. As we launch the Education Digest - our new monthly newsletter - we are taking the opportunity to reintroduce ourselves.

EPQ's focus

EPQ helps ensure that Warwick offers the transformative, enriching and distinctive education envisaged in the University's Education Strategy to every student who studies here.

Our team works with staff and students across the University to:

  • Develop and advise on education policy
  • Uphold education quality and manage relationships with partner institutions
  • Coordinate the implementation of the Education Strategy

Our Core Services

We underwent a strategic refresh through 2021/22 to ensure clarity of purpose and priorities over the coming years, and to ensure that we are organised and operating in the best way possible to deliver on those priorities. We're now transitioning to organise our work around 11 Core Services across the core functions above, which you can read more about here.

Our EPQ Team

Our Strategic Review provided a good opportunity to take stock of what was working well, and what could work differently in our team too. To increase the resilience of our services, make best use of our capacity and improve support for professional development, the team has been reorganised around our distinct functions: quality and partnerships; policy and governnance; education strategy; and operational support.

Our Priorities in 2022/23

Above and beyond the Core Services that we deliver on an ongoing basis, we always have a handful of priority areas of focus. Through the coming year, we will first and foremost be focused on: delivering a TEF submission that the University can be proud of; delivering the ITLR 2023; undergoing an ITLR review ourselves; and supporting preparations for Ofsted's assessment of our degree apprenticeships.

Alongside these top tier priorities, we are delivering work this year to:

  • Replace technology, process and policy on module approval, course approval and curriculum implementation with an integrated, holistic approach to Curriculum Management.
  • Launch new support for staff and students to design brilliant courses that integrates expertise across central teams.
  • Refresh academic governance through Senate and its committees - including delivering on the Inclusive Education Model's commitment to more diverse memberships.
  • Begin scoping the reform of our academic regulations and policy so that they become simpler and easier to use, and remove the inconsistencies and ambiguities currently present.
  • Completing the establishment of our strategic partnership with University College BirminghamLink opens in a new windowLink opens in a new window, including the validation of UCB programmes that will see 3,000 students studying towards Warwick degrees in Birmingham within the next couple of years.
