We’re half-way through our teaching and learning review

infographicPanels for our Institutional Teaching and Learning Review (ITLR) began to meet on Monday 16 January 2017 and will continue to do so until 27 January. Take a look at our infographic giving some of the facts and figures about this major, institution-wide process, and see perspectives of just some of the students and staff who have been involved so far:

22 reviews completed and the remainder, including five reviews of professional service departments, will be concluded this week. Thank you to all those who have been involved – students, academics from other universities, internal academic and administrative colleagues – for their time, dedication and professionalism, and particular thanks to the central ITLR team who are coordinating this significant whole-University effort.”

Professor David Lamburn, Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education), comments

When working in a part time University administrative role I realised how many things go into maintaining Warwick’s high rankings and reputation. ITLR was a way to contribute to this effort. I really enjoyed the review, in particular being an equal member of the panel along with senior staff and academics. Very challenging three days that ended with immense sense of achievement knowing that I potentially made an impact on improving student experience, staff commendation and overall excellence of teaching and learning at Warwick!”

Bo Kestlyn, WBS student and ITLR panel member

The ITLR illustrated to me how important student opinions and teaching practice are to many academics. It was also interesting to hear the rationale for decisions made by departments and how these decisions influenced the activity of their members and other University departments. Finally, it was enjoyable to be a part of a panel composed of people from differing subject backgrounds, which often had lively and impassioned discussions for the benefit of the department under review.”

Alex Baker, Chemistry student and ITLR panel member

I found chairing an ITLR panel a surprisingly enjoyable experience! It was interesting to hear about the learning and teaching provision of another discipline within the University, and to undertake the review process alongside exceptional colleagues and enthusiastic students. The department we reviewed was fully engaged and positive around the quality and standards of their education provision. The whole process was a reflective and stimulating dialogue between colleagues wanting to share the strengths (of which there were many), challenges and opportunities for the future in education and research.”

Professor Olwyn Westwood, Warwick Medical School

"The ITLR gives students a great opportunity to contribute on what our department does well and what still can be improved. Our feedback was taken very seriously and we had a chance to reflect with other fellow students."

Sophie Worrall, Politics and International Studies student, who met with the ITLR panel
