Module content and teaching
Principal aims
This module seeks to provide an overview of the development of Translation Studies as a discipline since the 1970s but also of “pre-scientific” thought on translation dating from the classical era; the module simultaneously provides an overview of translation theory and explores how translation theory relates to translation practice and to the study of translated texts.
Principal learning outcomes
To gain an understanding of the development of Translation Studies as a discipline since the 1970s; to gain an understanding of “pre-scientific” thought on translation from the classical era to the emergence of Translation Studies; to explore the nature and usefulness of translation theory and its relationship to translation practice; to explore the nature and usefulness of translation theory and its impact on the study of translated texts.
