Module content and teaching

Principal aims

* provide information about and enhance reflection on the process of learning a second or foreign language, with a view to enhancing students' ability to learn any second/foreign language in the future.  * enable students to develop their proficiency in a second/foreign language of their choice, to be studied during the term * enable students to draw up a realistic and appropriate learning plan for further study of the language of their choice.

Principal learning outcomes

Students will be able to: * Reflect self-critically on the process of learning a second/foreign language, relating theories of language learning autonomy, motivation, styles and strategies appropriately to their own past and ongoing experience. * Apply appropriate conceptualisations of language learning autonomy, motivation,needs, styles and strategies directly to the learning of a particular language for intercultural communication [note: any language can be chosen.] * Appropriately plan, implement and monitor a language learning project for themselves to meet intercultural needs, even in the absence of appropriate materials or teaching provision.
