Module content and teaching

Principal aims

* provide additional information about and promote greater reflection on the process of learning a second/foreign language, with a view to further enhancing students' ability to learn any foreign language in the future.  * enable students to further develop their proficiency in a second/foreign language of their choice, to be studied during the term * enable students to implement and evaluate a learning plan (devised for the prerequisite module, ALLIC I) for further study of the language of their choice. * enable students to assess their language learning proficiency and progress.

Principal learning outcomes

Students will be able to: * Reflect self-critically, with enhanced knowledge and understanding, on the process of learning a second or foreign language, relating conceptualisations of language learning beliefs, styles and strategies appropriately to their own past and ongoing experience. * Apply appropriate conceptualisations of language learning beliefs, styles and strategies directly to the learning of a particular language for intercultural communication [note: the language studied for ET997 must be chosen] * Assess their own language proficiency and evaluate their learning, adjusting a language learning plan accordingly.
