Principal aims
Intellectual Contexts I: Intercultural Transactions aims to provide essential insights in, and skills for, advanced interlingual and intercultural study in English and French. In association with the optional modules, Intercultural Transactions will help the students prepare for advanced study at doctoral level, if they wish.
Principal learning outcomes
By the end of the module, students will be able: to demonstrate appropriate factual knowledge and good understanding of key concepts of critical and cultural theory, and of intercultural/interlingual transactions, in relation to the French culture and thought (broadly understood); to present material and analyses relating to both orally and in a scholarly written format, as appropriate to the critical and intercultural/translingual approaches operative in the field of French culture and thought; to apply relevant theoretical concepts and use the appropriate technical vocabulary to agreed texts or topics relating to French culture and thought (broadly understood) and its intercultural/translingual interactions; to undertake further advanced study of materials related if the student wishes to continue with his/her studies in the field of French Studies or adjoining cultural and linguistic areas of study.
