Module content and teaching
This module aims to provide students with a broad understanding of the basic concepts in accounting and financial management with an emphasis on financial corporate performance measurement.
Principal learning outcomes
"Subject Knowledge and Understanding: Ability to describe the role of accounting in providing financial information to users; An ability to identify, analyse, interpret, and present relevant information to facilitate decision making. Apply accounting and financial concepts and practices to analyse business problems relevant to management decision making and recommend courses of action. Key Skills: Develop and demonstrate written communication skills; Develop and demonstrate group/team work, oral communication and presentation skills.Cognitive Skills: Assess the nature of accounting information and be able to describe the relationships between different types of financial statements and behavioural consequences of accounting decisions; Develop and demonstrate analytical, and problem solving skills. Subject Specific/Professional Skills; Apply key accounting and finance concepts and practices to analyse business problems; Prepare and present professional reports to recommend courses of action; Understanding of the use of accounting information in the context of management decision making and for the purpose of external publication."
