Module content and teaching
Module Aims: a) Understand the theoretical concepts of parallel computing; b) Gain practical skills and confidence in using standard software packages for parallelising algorithms; c) Apply the ideas and techniques to computational problems in mathematical and statistical sciences; d) Critically address issues of design, performance and validation of software.
Principal learning outcomes
Approach and solve problem involving numerical computations with confidence and skill; Understand theoretical issues relating to numerical algorithms; Have a deep understanding of some of the main ideas and techniques in solving computationally problems in mathematical and statistical sciences; Critically address issues of design, performance and validation of code development.
Timetabled teaching activities
The module will be delivered both through lectures on theoretical ideas and software design, and directed computer lab work to obtain skills in implementing, testing and improving performance.
