Principal aims

This module prepares you to take a leading role in the organisation and delivery of child health services in your localities and countries of origin

Principal learning outcomes

Learn to: Develop leadership and management skills for the organisation and delivery of child health services within a multidisciplinary and multiagency framework Develop skills in critical appraisal and evidence-based practice of child health Develop an ecological and child-centred approach to the practice of child health Explain and interpret children’s rights, debate the pros and cons of a children’s rights framework, and be able to reflect on their own practice in child health in the light of such rights Critically evaluate child health programmes in the light of the UN convention on the rights of the child, and apply principles of children’s rights in designing and evaluating new programmes Critically appraise published literature on the social, biological and environmental context of child health and demonstrate how an understanding of these contexts affects their own practice in child health Recognise and respond to different aspects of childhood vulnerability and resilience, including issues related to disability, ethnicity and gender Critique recognised theories of child development, and relate these to their own practice in child health Assimilate the learning from this module, combining knowledge of different models of childhood and demonstrate how these relate to a broader understanding of child health
