Module content and teaching
Principal aims
This module highlights a wide range of interdisciplinary research topics in biomedical research with a focus on Diabetes/Obesity and Neuroscience, two major research topics in the contributing departments. Emphasis will be given to clinical as well as basic research in these areas. Each session will be led by a researcher with direct experience of the topic under discussion, and will consist of lectures, group work and literature review. Researchers will be invited from WMS and Biological Sciences, and the module will provide an opportunity for researchers to highlight potential PhD projects to the students.
Principal learning outcomes
By the end of the module the students should be able to: Operate safely and effectively in the science graduate research environment at Warwick; Demonstrate a systematic understanding of the principles of interdisciplinary biomedical research; Critically evaluate interdisciplinary approaches to biomedical research in diabetes/obesity and neuroscience; Present the results of research to scientific audiences; Understand how to adapt their research skills to the requirements of varied and complex scientific contexts; Undertake systematic and complex searches of research literature and scientific information services; Scientific report writing.
