Principal aims
Largely reflecting the academic aims of the overall MA/Diploma in IPE, the core module on Theories and Issues in International Political Economy seeks: to introduce and explore the main theoretical perspectives and debates in International Political Economy; to survey contemporary developments in important subject areas within International Political Economy and the policy issues that surround them; to evaluate the contributions of the principal theoretical approaches and perspectives to understanding key issues and phenomena in the contemporary global political economy; to provide information about the links between IPE and other cognate subject fields within the social sciences; and to prepare students for possible doctoral training (MA only).
Principal learning outcomes
Again in keeping with the learning objectives of the MA/Diploma overall, by the end of the core module students should possess:a sound knowledge of the key concepts and theoretical debates in International Political Economy; an ability to analyse, compare and critically evaluate fundamental assumptions and arguments in IPE and IPE-related literature; an ability to construct and substantiate a critical argument; good investigative and information retrieval skills, including familiarity with information technology; good written communication skills in English; good time management; and an ability to devise viable essay topics.
