Module content and teaching
Principal aims
This module, together with PS923 Methods & Analsis in Behavioural Science, will provide students with the background to enable them to understand and critically evaluate material on the additional modules offered by the Psychology Department. In particular, students will learn about experimental control and design, and how to write up research results in the format required for psychology journals at the same time as covering basic material in the relevant areas of psychology.
Principal learning outcomes
Understand key concepts in experimental design, and the different between experimental approaches in economics and psychology; be able to design and run simple experiments in the areas of memory, perception, judgement and decision-making; be able to write up experimental reports in the style required by the American Psychological Association; be able to analyse data and draw conclusions; understand core concepts in memory; attention; perception, social, and neuropsychology and their importance for human judgement and decision-making.
