Module content and teaching

Principal aims

This module aims to give theatre consultants some experience of the different tasks that constitute the management of an arts complex so that they can bring this knowledge to bear in their work with clients and architects. It will also allow them to visit and evaluate other Midlands performance venues.

Principal learning outcomes

Upon module completion students will have the basic knowledge to assess the many different jobs that are necessary for the successful running of a large arts complex, the spaces (both back-stage and front of house) that are necessary for the complex to run smoothly, and an awareness of the management skills, relevant legislation, marketing, financial planning and programming that is essential in a receiving and producing house with a range of auditoria, a gallery, a bar, cafeteria and restaurant, shops and a conference hall.
