Module content and teaching
The aim is to prepare the students for professional work after graduation either as implementers or consultants. In this it supports the general aims of developing students understanding of modern management practices and the role and application of supporting information systems.
Principal learning outcomes
"The academic purpose is to critically evaluate the opportunities and benefits of applying ERP systems against the costs and implementation issues that such systems often bring. Particular emphasis will be placed on the role that functional integration has on business process performance and the selection of appropriate application modules to achieve this. On completion of this module, participants will be able to: Demonstrate knowledge of the principle components and concepts of ERP systems and business processes that are supported by these. Use structured methods to evaluate the business opportunities arising from better process integration in various industrial settings.Explain how the various components of advanced ERP systems support business integration; Demonstrate an understanding of the technical infrastructure, and information technologies used at the forefront of ERP system design; Evaluate the information needs of a business and identify which components of an ERP system are most significant to meet these; Navigate the SAP environment and explain how shared data supports business processes in a complex information system landscape; Critically evaluate the possible effects that new technologies have had and may have on the development of ERP systems and their successors; Engage with IS and business professionals in evaluating information systems proposals that include ERP integrations."
