Module content and teaching
The aim of this module is to provide a broad understanding of long term financial strategy and it covers two complementary aspects of finance. An important aspect of the investment decision making process is financial evaluation including the development and interpretation of criteria for assessing the risk and return. The other aspect is the sources of funding for long term projects and this is reviewed from the point of view of the implications for long term strategic decisions. An introductory awareness of the Stock Exchange is also included.
Principal learning outcomes
"On successful completion of this module participants will be able to: Applying the project appraisal techniques introduced in the Financial Analysis and Control Systems module. Understanding the element of risk/uncertainty in the range of financial strategies available to a company, and how to measure their effect; Appreciating the sources of funds available to a company, and their relevance in financial strategy; Contributing to the appraisal of the business alternatives open to a company, including mergers and acquisitions; Appreciating the importance of broader issues in financial strategy, including non-financial considerations and secondary effects; Recognising appropriate measures of success."
