Module content and teaching

Principal aims

The module will introduce the concepts of design for safety and design for comfort for automotive vehicles. The module aims to promote an understanding of, and an interest in, the issues of design for safety and comfort, not only for the passengers of the vehicles but for pedestrians and other road users.

Principal learning outcomes

By the end of the module the student should be able to: Understand the engineering principles that underpin the design of an automobile for the safety of the occupants and other road users; Understand the engineering principles that underpin the design of an automotive vehicle for the comfort of the occupants and other road users; Recognize the future direction of the design of safety and comfort systems within the automotive engineering sector; Appreciate the role and use of safety systems in automobile engineering; Appreciate the role and use of comfort systems in automobile engineering.

Timetabled teaching activities

Spring. This module includes 30 hours of lectures, 2 hours of examples classes and 6 hours of laboratory sessions.Required self-study: 112 hours.
