Module content and teaching

Principal aims

This module looks at two different periods of two national cinemas, at least one of which is European. Each case will be studied separately, although where appropriate comparative work will be undertaken. Each cinema will be studied in terms of its production context, its stylistic and thematic characteristics and the relation of these to the cultural traditions informing them. the module will consider the implications, difficulties and applications of ideas such as national identity and national film style.
