Module content and teaching

Principal aims

To develop essay-writing skills in the target language; To increase vocabulary, both general and specialised; To improve oral skills; To improve listening and reading comprehension skills; To improve translation skills; To improve oral and written competence in English; To identify and rectify grammar problems; To cultivate sensitivity towards language in general, and an awareness of register, semantics and style in particular; To encourage correct dictionary usage; To develop specialist business-related vocabulary knowledge and increase awareness of German business practice. (Primarily, but not exclusively for students of Business Studies)

Principal learning outcomes

In the Second Year the focus in our language work is on the four skills: essay writing in German; translation into English; audio and visual comprehension; and spoken German.

Timetabled teaching activities

You will have THREE regular weekly language classes: Translation into English and listening comprehension. One hour per week. Essay writing in the target language . One hour per week. Spoken German (with a native-speaker) One hour per week.
