Module content and teaching

Principal aims

This module looks at the design and management of these operations, looking at the challenges that organisations face in effectively and efficiently managing their operations. The module looks at four aspects of operations management: design of operations; delivering operations; development of operations capabilities; and directing operations and the link between operations management and operations strategy.

Principal learning outcomes

On completion of this module you will have developed a basic knowledge and understanding of: the main critical works in Operations Management; the organisational and strategic context within which operations managers function; processes, their design and management; product and service design; fundamental concepts relating to operations planning and control; broad principles of and methods used in operations improvement.

Timetabled teaching activities

1 x 2 hour lecture per week, and a 1 hour seminar session usually spent analysing a case study
