Module content and teaching
Principal aims
The principal aims of this module are: to introduce students to the study of political economy through discussion of the main issues and theoretical perspectives; to introduce students to the core conceptual language used in the field of political economy; to provide introductory discussion of how concepts and ideas in political economy relate to real-world political economic processes; to encourage students to connect insights from other modules to their discussion of political economy; to provide a venue for both discussion and debate and the development of communication skills; to provide students with a chance to develop their writing skills through assessment.
Principal learning outcomes
Having completed this module successfully, students should be able to: Identify a variety of different theoretical perspectives in IPE and recognise their implications; Know a variety of empirical issue areas in IPE and relate them to theoretical perspectives studied; Write appropriately constructed essays in a critical and analytical fashion.
Timetabled teaching activities
1 Lecture and 1 Seminar per week in Term 1.
