Module content and teaching

Principal aims

This module will address the rapid increase, in recent years, of computer simulations and data analysis on high performance computers, for research in all fields of computational physics and other sciences.

Principal learning outcomes

At the end of this module you should: be able to use visualisation libraries and desktop visualisation tools; be able to write a scientific application with a graphical user interface, using a toolkit; be able to understand the concepts of shared memory, and message passing programming constructs, and their utility in physics programming applications; be able to write a parallel program using shared-memory or message passing constructs, for physics applications; able to understand the concepts underlying Grid computing and e-science, and their general areas of applicability.
