Principal aims

 Develop students' understanding of professionalism in the FE and Skills sector  Develop students' understanding and knowledge of the relationship between the FE and Skills practitioner and the socio, economic and political context within which the FE and Skills sector operates.  Enable students to critically reflect upon their own practice and the working environment within which they teach.

Principal learning outcomes

• Critically evaluate own role, responsibilities and boundaries of role in relation to teaching • Critically evaluate and improve own assessment practice • Critically evaluate and improve own practice with references to theories and principles of learning and communication • Critically evaluate the concept of professionalism and core professional values for teachers in the lifelong learning sector • Critically examine the relationship between the FE and Skills practitioner and the socio, economic and political • Critically evaluate own wider professional practice • Critically evaluate own need for continuous personal and professional self-development • Demonstrate effective session planning skills • Understand how to effectively deliver inclusive sessions which motivate learners taking opportunities to promote equality and inclusiveness within practice • Critically evaluate ways to negotiate appropriate individual goals with learners • Demonstrate how to effectively plan/design and conduct formal and informal assessment to enable learning and progression • Demonstrate how to give supportive and developmental feedback to promote learner progress and achievement • Demonstrate how to contribute to QA and QI systems and procedures
