Module content and teaching

Principal aims

This module aims to: To instil an appreciation of soil structure interaction : support structure : soil and soil : surface and existing underground structures; To design works and support structures in response to such interactions and informed by the CDM regulations.

Principal learning outcomes

At completion, students will be able to: Evaluate ground conditions and existing structures in specifying support requirements; Critique methods of ground improvement; Evaluate at least one current technical challenge or issue in soil-structure interaction; Predict ground movements resulting from underground excavations or ground treatments.
