Principal aims

 develop an understanding of the evolution of EU foreign policy;  explore the main theoretical approaches to understanding and explaining the EU as an international power and actor;  analyse the key policy dilemmas facing the EU in its neighbourhood;  assess the effectiveness of the EU’s main engagement mechanisms and tools in its neighbourhood within a broader geopolitical context

Principal learning outcomes

On completion of this module, you should have  Improved your presentation and research skills  enhanced your abilities to work independently and as part of a group  enhanced your ability to critically analyse and provide policy solutions to the EU’s challenges in its neighbourhood You should also be able to:  demonstrate an appreciation of how the EU has developed as an international actor;  assess the EU’s ability as an international actor with a focus on the mechanisms of Enlargement, the European Neighbourhood Policy and Strategic Partnership  critically analyse, both orally and in writing, the current challenges facing the EU in its neighbourhood.
