Module content and teaching
Principal aims
Business objectives are only achieved through the effort, dedication and talents of people. This module introduces engineers and technical people to the ‘people’ aspects of organisation. The emphasis is on increasing the participant’s knowledge and understanding of strategic human resource issues that effect operations on a daily basis; Organisational, behavioural and management concepts will be explored with the objective of providing participants with a theoretical foundation sufficient to evaluate the Human Resource Strategies of their own organisation; Module delivery is interactive and draws upon the participant’s organisational experience as much as possible.
Principal learning outcomes
On completion, the participant will be capable of: Recognise the value of human resource strategic management to the organisation; Be able to evaluate the strategic people choices made in organisations; Understand the social and control structures of an organisation; Understand the behavioural theories and control / performance processes in an organisation; Recognise the effect of their own contribution as managers and leaders to the effectiveness of the organisation.
