Module content and teaching

Principal aims

The principal aims of the module are to: 1) Examine a number of themes that enable students to develop their ability to critically analyse dominant educational ideologies, policies and practices 2) To develop a clearer ”big picture” understanding of the broader structures and forces that are affecting schools, colleges, universities and education systems today 3) To discover and engage with models of education and training at the early childhood, primary, secondary and post-secondary levels, and in international contexts.

Principal learning outcomes

Students will demonstrate: 1) An informed understanding of key educational policies in the post-war period. 2) An informed understanding of the effects of the short- and long-term educational agenda in the UK into the twenty-first century. 3) An informed understanding of the relationship of education policy to social class, race, gender, diversity, and the economy. 4) An informed understanding of the political, economic, social and intellectual developments which have informed educational provision in the post-war period. 5) An informed understanding of the impact of globalisation on education, schooling and training.
