Module content and teaching
Principal aims
This module focuses on recent research in the area of cultural identity, adaptation and growth. Taking a multidisciplinary approach, it explores major theories of cultural adaptation and identity, and examines key findings from classic and recent empirical studies. You will have the opportunity to start researching this issue for yourself, to reflect on your own identity and cultural adaptation, and to promote your own growth towards ‘intercultural personhood’.
Principal learning outcomes
By the end of the module you should be able to demonstrate in-depth knowledge and understanding of theories of cultural adaptation, identity, growth, to understand the range of contexts where cultural adaptation may occur and factors that may influence the adaptation process, and to be familiar with research findings on the adaptation process.
